چکیده

The possible worlds semantics is a fruitful approach used in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for both modelling as well as reasoning about knowledge in agent systems via modal logics. In this work our main idea is not to model/reason about knowledge but to provide a theoretical framework for knowledge assessment (KA) with the help ofMonatagueScott (MS) semantics of modal logic. In KA questions asked and answers collected are the central elements and knowledge notions will be defined from these (i.e., possible states of knowledge of subjects in a population with respect to a field of information).

Suhrawardi's Modal Syllogisms

Suhrawardi’s logic of the Hikmat al-Ishraq is basically modal. So to understand his modal logic one first has to know the non-modal part upon which his modal logic is built. In my previous paper ‘Suhrawardi on Syllogisms’(3) I discussed the former in detail. The present paper is an exposition of his treatment of modal syllogisms. On the basis of some reasonable existential presuppositi...

Investigating Finite Models of Non-classical Logics with Relation Algebra and RelView

In computer science, scenarios with interacting agents are often developed using modal logic. We show how to interpret modal logic of knowledge in relation algebra. This allows the use of the RelView tool for the purpose of investigating finite models and for visualizing certain properties. Our approach is illustrated with the well-known ‘muddy children’ puzzle using modal logic of knowledge. W...

Public and private communication are different: results on relative expressivity

Dynamic Epistemic Logic (DEL) is the study of how to reason about knowledge, belief, and communication. This paper studies the relative expressivity of certain fragments of the DEL language for public and private communication. It is shown that the language of public communication with common knowledge and the language of private communication with common knowledge are expressively incomparable...

Knowledge without Modality: A Simpli ed Framework for Chronological Ignorance

Shoham's logic of chronological ignorance (CI) provides a formal approach for representing and reasoning about causal relationships. The utility of the formalism comes from imposing a partial order on Kripke interpretations for theories in a modal logic of temporal knowledge. In this paper we show that the use of modal logic in this context is unnecessary and that the same result can be achieve...
